Hello, OutStandish Readers! It's been a while since the last update. I'm sorry for going silent for so long. We have been busy, and yet it seemed like for a while there wasn't much interesting to report. That being said, last week, we had a great week with lots of work being done to the Standish House. But first, here's a brief recap of what happened since our last update... Tom and Gwen made several trips to the house to continue their efforts to apply chemical stripper and scrape paint on the staircase along with the trim on the living and dining rooms. Lately, they've been experimenting with different stains trying to find the staircases' final look. We decided to go with the lighter stain on the furthest newel post in the above photo. Chris has been super busy working in Vivian's room getting it ready for her. He spent a lot of time patching plaster in her room and scraping paint, which he will gladly tell you that he does not enjoy scraping paint. Still though, he woke up early every day and went to the house and scraped paint in Vivian's doorway, closets, along with the trim in the dining room and other areas downstairs. It hasn't been all paint scraping for Chris at the Standish House, he's been busy installing some add-ons in the kitchen, including a pop-out tray in front of the kitchen sink, as well as a vent under the lower cabinets. Chris has been busy painting trim in Vivian's room and the kitchen. My dad came by over the weekend and helped install the new trim in the kitchen. In addition to painting trim, Chris painted Vivian's room a nice coat of cream paint. The dark blue trim and cream walls will carry over throughout the rest of the house. When Amanda and I went on our Baby-moon, we were at a coffee shop in Clarksville, MO where they had painted their trim black and we both thought it looked really cool and striking. Not wanting to go all the way black, we decided to go with a blue that matches the kitchen cabinets. The most exciting thing to happen at the house lately has been the installation of the new kitchen countertops! Thanks to Lowes and Hallmark Stone for creating and installing our new white quartz countertops. They took the sink we purchased at the restore when they came to measure the space for the countertops and cut the hole for the sink and even installed it. Another great development at the house is the addition of water in the Standish House. Our plumber, Bernskoetter Plumbing worked with Missouri American Water to come out and dig in the front yard and install a new digital meter in order to connect the water. Once the water was turned on, the plumbers installed a working toilet in the downstairs bathroom. In addition, they also installed the new hot water heater in the basement as well. I can't tell you how happy we are to have a toilet on site! Lastly, for the last couple weeks, I've been going to the house after work and on the weekends to continue scraping paint. I've been focusing my efforts on the lower baseboards in Vivian's room. As a lighter note, in the process of getting ready to go scrape paint, I've had to enlist a pair of my normal day-to-day blue jeans into the ranks of work pants. Since I'm not getting them noticeably dirty, and don't want to dirty all my jeans, I used a sharpie and marked a pair of my pants with the address of the house, making myself a stylish pair of custom '103s'. Next Week: Tile goes up on the kitchen backsplash and the upstairs shower.
