The Standish House is a Queen Anne style house built by Mildred Standish, widow of Lt. Col. Austin Standish in the late 1800s on land previously owned by her family. She lived in the house with her children after her husband died after the Civil War. The house is most known for the keyhole opening on the front porch, almost like a doorway to a Hobbit-hole in the Shire. The house's first floor exterior is brick and the above floors are covered in wood shingles. There are 3 bedrooms, 1-1/2 bathrooms, and formal living and dining rooms. The interior is most notable for its U-shaped staircase and large pocket doors. |
