There was a bit of movement on Standish House last week, where Temporary Power was restored to the house. Many "Thanks!" to Ott Electric for getting us back on the grid. This new development should help us get contractors into the house now that they have access to electricity for their tools. Also, this means that last week was the first time in a while where we didn't have to run the generator. With the aid of super-long extension cords, we were able to continue with the building of the back decks. The first order of business on Saturday for me, my dad, and my father-in-law, Chris, was the building of scaffolding to use during the construction of the second story 'sleeping porch'. Not only will the scaffolding help us with the second story porch, but it was created so it could be easily torn down and moved inside to help us paint the interior walls and ceilings. Then, when the Standish House is completed, the scaffolding will be repurposed to create shelving inside the house. After we built the scaffolding, we continued our work on the back porch, setting the posts that will support the upper level. On Sunday, we continued work on the upper deck, basically doing everything we did for the lower deck but 20 feet up! With the help of the new scaffolding, we were able to build the outer frame for the sleeping porch. Next week: We're taking a weekend off working on the house, but we will still have a story about the restoration of the door hardware.

As my 'homework', I came down to the house after work on Monday, screwed down the steps, putting the finishing touches on steps for the first floor deck.
Meanwhile, in the rest of the house, mine and Amanda's mothers helped us out trimming the shrubs in the front yard and continued with their cleaning of the interior of the house.
